Philcon got a whole lot cooler on day 3.
While it remains a financial tragedy, I got to meet and connect with the wide and wonderful community of Philadelphia Geeks. Philly is one great city in which to be a geek.
As the community of Philly Geek can so tell you.
The Philly gaming community is also a thriving and awesome scene. RealityVault is a great resource for gamers, and my newest online bookmark.
The Philly film scene needs a shout out, as do the costumers I shared a panel about Duct tape with. There's also a Linux community, vampire LARPers, some anime cosplayers, Zombies galore, and exciting new area cons.
I'm getting together my links page now, so I can give the right shouts-outs and heads up about cool things happening here in the city, in the suburbs, and in the wider community.
I also have to give Philcon props for their Science track programming, something I all too often neglect. Philcon, along with Balticon, are conventions where you can talk and learn about actual science, and technology, where rocket scientists and physicists lurk in the crowd, and shockingly brilliant people appear out of nowhere.
I will probably be back next year, just not as a vendor.
Everyone who was on the Philly Geek panel, at the convention, or even who wasn't, let me know what else I should put up a link to, a review for or a description of. We've got this great community, and its worth communicating about.
