Philcon's pretty disorganized this year. Just getting the dealer badges we paid for was a huge headache. Happily, as I'm a guest this year, I got mine just fine, its the other wits who were left high and dry. It was somewhat sorted out by the time we closed yesterday. My tragedy was that the food at the artists reception was non-appearing for over half an hour of the reception, so everyone sort of left.
Philcon, for those of you who aren't familiar with it, has been going since 1936. Its an old school, literary sci-fi con with an older demographic. Back in the day, they had guests like Asimov and Heinlein. Today its a small and sleepy convention. They're trying to flex a little with the times; theres some tiny anime track programming, and Harry Potter panels, and the Brown coats shindig there, but still, most of the people there are in the mid thirties and up bracket, and there is a larger than usual group of crotchety old timers who don't get anime at all and are unhappy that kids today don't read Frank Herbert and Heinlein. There are some fresh faces though in the art show and on some of the gaming panels. Maybe Saturday will be livelier and more with it.
